Book Launch Event with local poet extraordinaire Amanda Moore
Join us in celebration of Outer Sunset poet, Amanda Moore, of her debut and already-award-winning Requeening.
"Moore's Requeening is a rare feat for any book of poems, let alone a debut, in that the lines, wrought with such deft precision and care, mark the sum total of a life richly lived and felt at the seat of poetry. Each poem is both a new vision of familiar themes and also, as the title suggests, a recommitment to the central questions of motherhood, language, the natural world, and their precarity in the American body. Moore leaves nothing unobserved, not because of some allegiance to poetic duty but because the objects of her world and the people in them deserve attention, which, to this poet, is synonymous with care. These poems care, first and foremost, for what they write of and through, which is a much needed—yet increasingly rare—achievement." -Ocean Vuong
In her outstanding debut collection, Requeening, Amanda Moore imaginatively parallels the life of a woman in her family with the life of the queen bee in the hive. These poems take us through the sleepless nights of early parenthood, drunk with joy, through illness and recovery, through grief and fierce love" -Ellen Bass
Event will be held outdoors in Black Bird Bookstore's backyard.
Masks will be required. Event is free and open to all.
