October 2024: 'The Space Between' by Sarang Byrne
Sarang Byrne (watercolor painter): “I am particularly drawn to the spontaneity of watercolor. The way the pigment moves and settles on the paper can be unpredictable, much like our emotions. This unpredictability allows for moments of raw expression and authenticity, capturing fleeting feelings that might otherwise go unnoticed. In this way, my paintings serve as a visual diary, documenting the ebb and flow of my inner world.
This body of work is about The Space Between loss and grief, the space
between then and now. Loss is a profound absence, a gap that reshapes the
world around us. Grief is the emotional response to that gap, a dance of
memory and emotion. The space between “then” and “now” is rich with layers
of experience. It is a space where nostalgia and growth evolve with who we
are becoming. I invite viewers to reflect on their own journeys between the
then and now, finding meaning in the present dialogue between the two.”
Sarang Byrne was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She had the opportunity
to attend public schools that allowed her the resources and opportunities to
focus on art. Encouraged by family and teachers from a young age, she went
on to receive a Bachelors of Fine Art in Illustration Design at Art Center
College of Design in Pasadena, CA. She now resides in San Francisco, CA
where she manages a photography studio and continues to paint. Her medium of choice is currently watercolor.
