doubling down on what matters

Dear Reader,
These days of DMs and texts pinging in our pockets, the only actual phone calls I receive come from my 94 year old grandmother, robots offering me tax solutions, friendly sounding people telling me I have qualified for a loan, and Ari. The first and last on that list always get answered. My grandmother and I discuss Wordle. Ari and I discuss the world.

Ari's take is always optimistic, centered in the goodness of humanity and toward lifting those around him. And, of course, the path is always lined with good food. Lately, he has landed on apricots as a symbol for the current moment. Come find out why, and whole lot more to lift the spirit and be inspired when Ari and I sit down in conversation at Black Bird on Saturday July 26th. I hope you can join us!

August 24, 7pm

Each month, we choose a discussion-worthy novel with a connection to San Francisco, whether through the author or the topic. And the best part? Whenever possible, the author will join the discussion!

Our August pick is a quintessential summer novel: GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS by Shoshana von Blanckensee.

Set in the summer of '96, it follows a young Orthodox Jewish woman who moves cross-country with her best friend/secret girlfriend to the fabled queer paradise of San Francisco. It explores authenticity, family, and what we owe to those we love - including ourselves.

In proud partnership with Same Page SF, your friendly, well-informed, and unabashedly nerdy source for all things local and literary.
