AAPI Month Storytime w/ Andy A. Nguyen

Bay Area author reads from his children’s book The Day I Woke Up Different, a story about a child who discovers self-acceptance based on Andy’s experience growing up Vietnamese-American.

The Day I Woke Up Different is a poetically written and beautifully illustrated children's book. Journey with Anh who encounters the contrasts between his traditional home and American society. Feeling alone, he meets a friend who sheds light on how to navigate these obstacles through her experiences as a refugee American. This is a story about living between cultures, identity, and self-acceptance. We all have our different parts that make us whole. This story hopes to inspire you to take a look at yourself and enjoy all the parts that make you a complete and an amazing person.

Andy A. Nguyen is an integrative Nurse Practitioner for pediatric and young adults living with autoimmune diseases, and a street dancer representing the artist collective, Styles of Eon. He recently authored and published, “The Day I Woke Up Different”, a story about a Vietnamese American child who discovers self-acceptance.
