Black Bird Bookstore

Literary Magazine Caveat Lector

Black Bird hosts an evening of poetry and prose by the writers of this San Francisco literary magazine.

Caveat Lector began as a guerrilla zine. It was and continues to be organized on the idea of equal participation by a group of principals, each of whom contributes to each issue, shares editing, publishing and distribution responsibilities. It has evolved from a Xeroxed guerrilla zine to a website anthology appearing twice a year, publishing music, artwork and short films as well as literary work. We have published Jack Foley, Iván Arguëlles, Ernest Hilbert, David Starkey, D. G. Zorich, Australian poet Les Murray, filmmakers Nara Denning and Rita Piffer. The co-editors are:

Christopher Bernard, author of A Spy in the Ruins, Voyage to a Phantom City and the award- winning collection The Socialist’s Garden of Verses.

Steven Hill, author of Europe’s Promise: Why the European Way Is the Best Hope in an Insecure Age, Raw Deal: How the "Uber Economy" and Runaway Capitalism Are Screwing American Workers

Ho Lin, a musician and the author of China Girl: And Other Stories and Bond Movies: A Retrospective

Jonah Raskin, author of Beat Blues, San Francisco, 1955, American Scream, Allen Ginsberg’s Howl and the Making of the Beat Generation.
